Hugh Futrell | Chief Executive Officer

As Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hugh Futrell Corporation, Hugh Futrell is responsible for strategic direction, project acquisition and design, and financial management of the company and its portfolio of affiliated investments. Futrell also serves as the firm's principal planner and advises on and manages healthcare facility projects.

Futrell’s career in land-use planning, development, construction, and asset management began in 1979. As a principal, he has managed more than forty-five development projects, including single-family, master communities, market-rate and lower-income multifamily, commercial, hotel, and mid-rise mixed use projects.

Dedicated to Serving the Community
Futrell currently serves on the board of directors of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, Historic Railroad Square Association and the Santa Rosa Downtown Action Organization. He was twice elected to the governing board of the Santa Rosa City Schools Board, serving three times as President. His public agency leadership includes service as chairperson of the Santa Rosa Redevelopment Agency, the Santa Rosa Housing Authority, and the Santa Rosa Mobile Home Advisory Committee. Futrell has also served as a director on the boards of the Sonoma County Museum, Main Street Santa Rosa, the Sonoma County Drug Abuse Council, and the Committee to Preserve Santa Rosa Creek. 

Award-Winning Projects
Hugh Futrell and HFC have received numerous awards including Best Small or Midsize Business from the Santa Rosa Metro-Chamber of Commerce and two Infrastructure Champion Awards from the American Council of Civil Engineers, and awards for project implementation, sustainability, and green design. The firm has been further honored with project of the year awards for Museum on the Square, Downtown Apartments, Railroad Square Terrace, Hotel E and The Burbank. 

A licensed California general contractor and real estate broker, Hugh is a native-born Santa Rosa resident. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Dave Walter | Executive Vice President

As Executive Vice President and co-shareholder of the corporation, and as President of Walter Properties, Inc., David Walter brings forty-five years of construction and development experience to the company. Walter shares responsibility for the strategic direction of the firm, including its investments and acquisitions.

During his career Walter has particularly concentrated on single-family for-sale and lower density for-rent housing, as well as non-profit youth supportive facilities, producing more than 1,000 housing units throughout California. His personal portfolio includes office and light industrial assets in California and the West.

A licensed California General Contractor, Walter graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, and from the Harvard Business School with a Masters of Business Administration.

Betsy Kurczeski | Vice President, Operations

As Vice President, Operations, Betsy Kurczeski manages Hugh Futrell Corporation’s construction operations, including permitting, contract negotiations, buy-out, daily project management, and oversight of construction staff. Betsy additionally oversees finance and accounting operations, and corporate functions such as human resources, legal and compliance, and risk management. 

Prior to joining Hugh Futrell Corporation, Betsy held managerial and leadership roles in the construction industry, in the process honing both an unusually broad range of business skills and fluency with diverse construction types and styles. Initially serving as HFC’s Controller, she rapidly advanced to the role of Vice President, Construction, and then to her current role as Vice President, Operations. Betsy’s skills are demonstrated in her work on the historic renovation of Santa Rosa’s iconic Empire Building and its reinvention as Hotel E and in HFC’s project management role in rebuilding Santa Rosa Community Health’s Vista and West College campuses.

A Santa Rosa native, Betsy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University at Chico. In her free time she enjoys camping with her family, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing.
